A gripping sci-fi novel.

Archaeologist Socorro Reyes has accepted the assignment of a lifetime, searching for remains of a species capable of teleportation on a distant planet. But, during a violent last-minute argument with her partner, there is a fatal accident and she must make a choice. "Lady, you know your front door's hanging open, don't you?" The driver's eyes narrowed at me in the rear-view mirror. "Do you want to run back and shut it?"

"Fifteen hundred dollars if you get me to DC International in thirty minutes," I said, pulling my jacket closed.

"Suit yourself," he muttered as we accelerated steadily into the snow storm.
